MANCHESTER, N.H. – Francis Xavier John Murtie, 85, died peacefully June 29, at Elliot Hospital.

He was born in Wishaw, Scotland, on April 12, 1923, to Francis and Roseanne Murtie. He immigrated to America in 1927, grew up in New York City, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. As a design engineer, he worked for multiple corporations retiring from IBM.

Surviving family includes his loving wife, Nancy E. (Carville); two sons from a former marriage, Roger of Scottsville, Ky., and George of Essex Junction. Vt.; four grandchildren, Joshua of Boston, Mass., Elizabeth Chaffe of Essex Junction, Vt., Megan Eno of Tallahassee, Fla., and Brecon of Eustis, Fla.: a sister, Rose Graham of Wall, N.J.; and four nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by three brothers, John of Wishaw, Scotland, Edgar of Warwick, N.Y., and James of Westfiled, N.J.; and a sister, Elizabeth of Wishaw, Scotland.
