LEWISTON – Leona A. Mailhot, 95, of St. Mary’s Residence (formerly Maison Marcotte), died Wednesday, June 4 at St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion, where she resided for the past three months, with her family by her side.

Born in Lewiston, Sept. 15, 1912, a daughter of the late Alphonse and Odile Cote Dutil, she was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in the Class of 1933. She was married to Wilfred S. Mailhot, who died Dec. 8, 1976.

Mrs. Mailhot was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Ladies of Ste. Anne’s Sodality, Marchandes de Bonheur, Tiers-Ordre St. Dominique, Survivance Francaise and Lewiston Senior Citizen.

She taught school at St. Peter’s Grammar School for 12 years and enjoyed playing cards and doing crossword puzzles.

Leona loved spending time with family and friends and will be remembered for her great Catholic faith and love of family.

She is survived by two sons, Rev. Mr. Denis W. Mailhot and his wife, Jeanne of Auburn and Claude E. Mailhot and his wife, Denise of Lewiston; her grandchildren, Christopher Stephenson, Michael Keene and wife, Nicole, Renee Ouellette and husband, James, Nicole Morissette and husband, Bob, Joseph Mailhot and fiancée, Schara Kaldro and Collette and Linette Mailhot; her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Keene, Isaiah and Olivia Morissette and Ryan Ouellette; a sister, Grace McGraw and husband, Robert of Florida; and her sisters-in-law, Solange and Yvette Mailhot of Lewiston.

She was also predeceased by her daughter, Suzanne Keene, who died Sept. 15, 1996 and three brothers, Elisee, Adelard and Raymond Dutil.
