TURNER – Edith B. Damon, 81, of Turner, passed away on May 7 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born Feb. 27, 1927, at the Boothby homestead in Livermore. She was the daughter of Leslie E. and Thelma (Coolidge) Boothby. She graduated from Leavitt Institute in 1945, and attended Farmington Teachers’ College.
She lived a full life and accepted many challenges with admirable grace. She was known for her inner strength, her love of family, and her intense interest in life.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Ervin Prescott; and her eight children, (too darn many kids), Richard Damon of Livermore, David Damon and wife, Kate, of Livermore, Dennis Damon and companion, Barbara, of Jay, Cliff Damon and wife, Laurie, of Livermore, Susan Damon of Auburn, Elizabeth Weaver and husband, Gary, of Cape Elizabeth, Doris Michaud and husband, Steve, of Oakland and Janice Hein and husband, Gene, of Oak Park, Calif.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard N. Damon; her daughter, Rebecca Damon; her parents; her sister, Louise Berry; her brother, Leslie Boothby; and two grandchildren, Alan and Jamie Damon.
She also welcomed and “mothered” many children who were not her own. She instilled a strong work ethic in her family and took special pride in her grandchildren, who all inherited her love of knowledge; Greg Damon (Maine Maritime Academy), Christina Banks (Bates College), Sarah Wahlert (Wellesley College), Brandon Hein (Oak Park High School), Rick Damon (Maine Maritime Academy), Rebecca Damon (USM), Amanda Peralta (Colgate College), Ben Weaver (Dartmouth College), Beth Damon (Bowdoin College), Ellen Weaver (Colby College), Lisa Damon (Wellesley College), Jack Damon (U.S. Naval Academy), Alex Weaver (Bowdoin College), Amy Damon (Wellesley College), Alison Michaud (UMF) and Brandon Michaud (Corbin Academy); and five great-grandchildren.
