PORTLAND – Raymond M. MacLean, 66, of Morrill Avenue, Gorham, died Sunday, May 4, at a Portland hospital.
He was born in Auburn, Dec. 6, 1941, a son of Dan A. and Verena E. Young MacLean. He was an alumnus of Edward Little High School in Auburn and Bliss Business School in Lewiston. While attending high school, he was active on the school’s baseball, football and wrestling teams.
He spent most of his working years with Lewiston Welding Supply, retiring in 1984, due to health concerns. After that, he spent a number of years as a part-time sales representative for Proctor & Gamble, Johnsonville Sausage and Ferraro USA, covering accounts in southern Maine and New Hampshire.
As a youngster, he worked his way through the scouting ranks and at 21, rejoined Troop 111. For the next 12 years, he served in the capacities of assistant scout master, committee chairman and advancement chairman. He also worked with the football league for youth in Lewiston for four years serving as an assistant coach and league secretary, the Auburn YMCA biddy basketball program as assistant coach, and Lewiston Little League as the manager of the Shaw’s Team in the first year of the league’s operation. He was also a member of the Blue Devils sports family.
He is survived by his wife, Linda C. MacLean, whom he married Dec. 28, 2002; his son, Scott MacLean of Ipswich, Mass., and his fiancée, Christine Silva, and children, Rachel and Ryan; his daughter, RaeAnn MacLean Hodgkin of Lewiston and her husband, Andrew, and children, Melinda and Christopher; stepsons, Randy Hall of Fall River, Mass., Kenneth Hall of Charlotte, N.C., and Timothy Hall and his wife, Julie, of Gorham; his grandson, Shawn MacLean of Lynnfield, Mass.; his sister, Mary MacLean Bailey of Billerica, Mass.; his brother, James Young of Auburn; and his half sister, Marion MacLean Waterhouse of East Poland.
