LEWISTON – Claire D. Castonguay, 76, of the Tessier Road, Jay, died Monday, April 28, at Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, after a short illness.

She was born Aug. 28, 1931, at the family home on Otis Street in Jay, the daughter of Joseph L. and Malvina (Fournier) Dubord. She received her education in local schools and on Sept. 21, 1959, married Romeo L. Castonguay at St. Rose of Lima Church, Jay.

She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She had a special devotion to babies and children and she cared for many of them, maintaining lasting bonds throughout her lifetime.

After the death of her mother, during Claire’s high school years, she left school to help raise all of her 12 siblings. Her own children often remarked that she practiced on her brothers and sisters before becoming an excellent mother to them.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Romeo, of Jay; five children, two daughters, Rachel Parker and her husband, David, of Pownal and Denise Cloutier and her husband, Reynald, of Jay; three sons, Real, Martin and Roland and his wife, Carrie, all of Jay; 10 grandchildren, Emily, Danny, Desiree, Hillary, Curtis, Dylan, Casey, Catie, Caroline and Mariah; siblings, Joseph Dubord and his wife, Shirley, of Jay, Maurice Dubord and his wife, Nancy, of East Livermore, Andre Dubord and his wife, Elaine, of Livermore Falls, Louise LeBlanc and her husband, Raymond, of Jay, Anne Duguay of Gorham, Jean Shattuck and her husband, Herbert “Corky,” of Corinth, N.Y., and Lucille Dubord of Jay; brother-in-law, Donald Guerin and his wife, Nancy, of Augusta; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Pauline Guerin; and brothers, Norman, Rene, Frank and Lionel Dubord.
