AUGUSTA – Mary Jane Asselin, 79, of Freedom, passed away Thursday, April 24, at Glenridge Nursing Facility of Maine General in Augusta.
Born in Lewiston on Sept. 13, 1928, she was the daughter of Alfonse and Grace Blair Croteau and attended Auburn schools.
On Aug. 17, 1947, she married Roland Asselin, the love of her life. They lived in Auburn then moved to Greene with their three children in 1959.
She was employed by the Bates Mill, RCA, and Fancy Stitchers of Lewiston, Acorn Products of Auburn, and L.L. Bean’s manufacturing plant in Brunswick.
While her husband was alive, they had many adventures in life from hunting and fishing at their camp in Hollib, along with going to Reid State Park and Sebago Lake with their whole family. In December 1988, her beloved Roland passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
Some of the things she was most proud of were her family, a love of gardening flowers and vegetables, being a Eucharistic minister at St. Francis Mission, and most of all being a grandmother and then a great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Grandmaison and husband, Fern, of Greene, and Bonnie Martin and husband, Richard, of Freedom; a son, David Asselin and longtime spouse, Melina Dodd, of Rockland; grandchildren, Kerry Martin, Jamie Kelly, Tina Garnett, Brian Grandmaison, Jill Nielsen, Amanda Martin, Angie Kenney, Michelle Brown, and Samantha Asselin; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Dillon Leppala, Mathew, Jordan and Nathan Martin, Kylie and Morgan Nielsen, Brandon Scribner, Chase Grandmaison, Grace Ellis, Alyse Kenney, and the newest to arrive just 3 weeks ago, Grant Garnett.
