HOULTON – Hubert “Jake” Golding, 87, died April 11, at a local hospital after a brief illness.
He was born June 15, 1920, at Houlton, the son of Wilford and Verda (Helms) Golding.
Jake attended Houlton schools, graduating from Houlton High School, Class of 1938, and attended King’s College in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was employed with the Dead River Co. in Houlton and Bangor and served as a vice president and board member until his retirement in November 1978. He was a member of the Houlton Lodge of Elks and the Houlton Odd Fellows, was a trustee for the Ricker College executive committee, a member of the Houlton Rotary Club and past president of the H.R.D.C.
He is survived by his son, Garvin Golding and his wife, Linda, of Lewiston; one granddaughter, Valery Golding of Lewiston; one grandson, Marcus Golding and his wife, Lachelle, of Newcastle; a great-grandson, Maxell Garvin Marshhousen; a great-granddaughter, Riley Golding; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Hilda Golding in 1997; his sister, Muriel York; and brother Wendell Golding.
