HALIFAX, Fla. – Erland D. Scribner, 77, of Norway, died Wednesday, March 19, at Halifax Medical Center in Florida.

He was born in South Paris on Oct. 28, 1930, the son of Bernard and Addie Niles Scribner.

He served 20 years in the U.S. Army at National Security Agency, often moving around. He attended school to become a computer operator. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 11 years as a letter carrier and then as a bus driver at Telstar school district for seven years.After retiring, he became a snowbird spending the winter in Florida. Erland was a a good old fashioned country boy and a true gentleman. He enjoyed socializing with many, many friends for which he felt truly blessed. He loved dancing, bingo, swimming, camping, playing cards with his wonderful friends, music (he was a singer in the local Senior Citizen Band), bowling and doing crossword puzzles. Erland loved to tell a good story and had a fabulous sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife Velma Scribner of Norway; his children, son Duane and Teresa Scribner of N.Y.; daughter, Nancy Howe of Auburn; stepsons, Raymond Heikkinen of Norway and Wayne Heikkinen of Mechanic Falls; stepdaughter, Kathy and Bob Harmon of Windham; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Kendrick and Amy Scribner, Shirley Thomas, Harriet Hay, Patty Curtis, and Charlotte and Gerald Brien.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth “Alberta” Scribner; and sisters, Norma Deboise, Lois Rose and Montress Wiles.
