Auburn – Ruth L. Ladd, 85, of Minot, died Sunday, March 9, at Clover Health Care Center after a long illness.
She was born in Norridgewock, Nov. 18, 1922, one of two children to John and Marion Rogers Bacon and graduated from Norridgewock High School in 1940.
After graduation, she attended business school in South Portland. She then moved to Washington, D.C., and worked at the Pentagon until returning to Maine on the death of her mother in 1942.
In November 1943, she married Fred Ladd who was then in the Army Air Corps and together they moved to Long Island, N.Y., where he was stationed. During the time he was stationed in N.Y., she worked on the base. After his discharge in 1945, they moved back to Maine, where they settled and raised their four children
She went to work for the Postal Service in 1966 as a rural route carrier. She then served as a postal clerk and then as postmaster, a position she held until her retirement in 1984. After her retirement, she and her husband traveled throughout the United States and spent several winters in Florida.
She enjoyed many activities including sewing, gardening and cooking. Most of all, she enjoyed raising her children and, later in life, enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of Minot; three daughters, Donna and husband Buzz Palmer of Minot, Sherri and husband Lou Albert of Portland and Lisa and husband Peter Hemond of Minot; a son, Earle and wife, Mary, Ladd of Williston, Fla.; a sister, Evelyn Plourde of Lewiston; seven grandchildren Vance Loiselle of Duxbury, Mass., Ethan Loiselle of West Hartford, Conn., Laura Hemond of Minot, Nathaniel Hemond of Topsham, Travis, Tristan and Courtney Ladd of Williston, Fla., and six great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Clover Health Care Center for the wonderful care she received.
