AUBURN – Gilbert G. Richards, 75, of Lewiston, died Sunday, Feb. 24, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin.
He was born in Lewiston, Oct. 26, 1932, the son of Napoleon and Eva (Caron) Richards. He was a graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School, Class of 1951. He then entered the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict stationed in Germany.
He worked for more than 31 years as an administrator for IBM in both Massachusetts and Maine, and he then became the owner-operator of Gilly’s Variety for 12 years.
He was an animal enthusiast and had a great love for dogs and cats. He enjoyed cooking, and he was devoted to his family and his many friends.
On Feb. 13, 1983, he married the former Leta Copp, who survives him of Lewiston.
Other survivors include a son, Arlo West of Auburn; a daughter, Deborah West of Biddeford; a brother, Paul Richard of Lewiston; six grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved pet Jackyl.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Jo-Ann West in 2007; four sisters, Laurentine Richard, Germaine Bard, Emilienne Lemolin Weeks and Monette Angers; and four brothers, Raoul, Roland, Anthoine and Victorien Richard.
