MEXICO – Stanley Spaulding, 90, passed away on Feb. 18, at the Rumford Community Hospital.
He was born on Sept. 4, 1917, in Embden, the son of Walter and Birdena Spaulding. He attended school in Strong and remained a lifelong resident of Mexico. He married Eva M. Fitzmorris on March 3, 1935.
He was a veteran of the military, having served his country in the Army during World War ll, in France with Co.D, 708th Military Police Battalion. He worked in the woods logging, was a local delivery man for Carling’s Black Label Beer and was a firefighter for the Mexico Fire Department till his retirement in 1980. He enjoyed snowmobiling, was involved in the founding of the Rumford Polar Bears Snowmobile Club, camping and spending time outdoors with his family and friends. He took great pride in his garden, which he independently maintained till his last summer.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Eva, after almost 73 years of marriage; his daughter, Shirley Porter and husband, Ronald, of Windham; son-in-law, Arthur Boivin; three sisters, Ferdona Young, Carlene Philbrick and Christine Schmersal, all of Mexico; seven grandchildren, Grace Giconda and husband, Peter, of Newton, N.H., Terry Lewis and husband, Robert, of Searsmont, Darren Boivin and wife, Laurie, of Eustis, Kim Boivin of Rumford, Greg Boivin and wife, Kathy, of Kenduskeag, Lynn Holmes and husband, Rick, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Elise Boivin of Greenwood; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Basil Spaulding; a sister, Velma Fulton; a son, Stanley Jr.; and his daughter, Lyanne Boivin.
He lived a full long life and left his family and friends with many wonderful memories. He will be deeply missed by all.
