MENLO PARK, Calif. – Robert “Bob” Carrier, 80, died peacefully Jan. 11 at his home in Menlo Park, surrounded by his family, while under hospice home care.

He was born in Lynn, Mass., to Arthur and Irene St. Pierre Carrier and grew up in Auburn. After graduating from Edward Little High School in 1945, he served briefly in the Navy before attending Boston University.

After graduation, he was called back to the Navy and served as an officer aboard the USS Leyte. After his honorable discharge in 1954, he traveled west to attend graduate school at Stanford University, completing examinations for his Ph.D..

He worked for many years as an economist at the Stanford Research Institute. He enjoyed his many trips to places of interest around the United States. He and his wife also made summer visits to Small Point Beach in Phippsburg, while visiting his sister and family.

He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Kay; his children, Stephen, Michael, Paul and his wife, Katrina, Robert and Suzanne; his grandchildren, Jason, Andrew, Annemarie and Julia; his sister, Doris Dube and her husband, Charlie; nephew and godson, Chuck Dube and wife, Valerie, and their daughters, Angela and Alyson of Dallas, Pa.; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents.
