AUBURN – Dolena “Del” M. Brown of Richmond, died Monday, Jan. 28, at the Hospice House, after a year’s courageous struggle with cancer. Her family was gathered at her side.
She was born on June 28, 1929, as Dolena Edla Hood, daughter of Edla Naomi Hood of Livermore. She was adopted by Edith McIntire (Abelli) of Lewiston and her name was changed to Dolena Mary McIntire.
She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949, and attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. While at Lewiston High School and over the next several years, she, blessed with a glorious lyric-soprano voice, performed on WCOU radio of Lewiston with Roselle Coury and Ralph Precoppio, and at many church and community events.
She was married to Nicholas Petroulis of Lewiston in 1952. During the following seven years, the couple moved to California and England with the U.S Air Force and had three children, Barbara, Kathryn and Paul. Nicholas Petroulis died in 1959, while in the Air Force.
She married Harold Brown of Richmond in 1962, and the couple had two children, Nancy and Jane. The family resided at the Brown Dairy Farm for many happy years.
She is survived by her husband, Harold of Richmond; her five children, Barbara Petroulis of Harvard, Mass., Kathryn Kiplinger and husband, Herman, of Stamford, Conn., Paul Petroulis and wife, Terri, of Richmond, Nancy Pollock and husband, James, of Richmond and Jane Crowley and husband, Larry, of Nashville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, Mac and Christine Devlin of Harvard, Mass., William Kiplinger of Duxbury, Mass., Nicholas, Ana and Alexandra Petroulis of Richmond, Jessica, Katherine and Christopher Pollock of Richmond and Brianna and Ryan Crowley of Nashville, Tenn.; and two brothers, Gordon Timberlake of Falmouth and Ronald Timberlake of Leesburg, Fla.
In her passing, she especially remembered Terri Simmons Petroulis, her daughter-in-law of Richmond, who cared for her for many months, and Janice Soucy of Auburn, her life-long best friend; her nephew, James Simones and his family of Lewiston; John Petroulis, her brother-in-law of Portsmouth, N.H., and his family, and Paula Petroulis Hepner and her family, who reside in Florida. She was grateful to her longtime physician, Dr. James Schneid of Augusta.
