SABATTUS – Paul P. Gregoire, 59, of the Bowdoinham Road in Sabattus, died unexpextedly Monday, Jan. 14, at his home.

He was born in Lewiston Dec. 27, 1948, a son of Rosario A. and Rita A. (Pelletier) Gregoire. He was educated in Lewiston schools, graduated from St. Dom’s in 1967, and remained a lifelong resident of the Lewiston-Sabattus area. He was a veteran of the military having served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from March 1968 until his honorable discharge as a sergeant in March 1971. He remained active as a member of the reserves until March 1974.

On July 29, 1972, he married his soulmate, the former Pauline Carrier. Upon completion of his apprenticeship at Bath Iron Works, where he was valedictorian, he remained there and was employed for 36 years at BIW and was still actively working at the time of his death.

For many years, he was also a volunteer and director for the BIW Recreation Association. He was a member of Lisbon Falls Baptist Church, where he and his wife were both very active including serving as youth group leaders for several years and he was also school board chairman for the Lisbon Falls Christian Academy for a number of years.

Among his favorite enjoyments were spending quality time with his family, fishing, hunting, gardening, mussel digging, bee keeping and watching favorite sports teams with his son.

He leaves his wife of 35 years, Pauline Gregoire of Sabattus; his son, Petty Officer Third Class James P. Gregoire, aboard the USS Nimitz in San Diego, Calif.; his daughter, Heather Gray and husband, Sergeant First Class, Andrew J. Gray of Clinton, Calif.; five brothers and sisters, Sister Marguerite Gregoire P.M. of Methuen, Mass., Dan Gregoire and wife, Joan, Rosario Gregoire, Annette Gregoire and Marc Gregoire and wife, Carol, all of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Rita and Rosaire Gregoire.
