LEWISTON – Ruth (Downs) Sargent was received with angelic rejoicing as she entered into the receiving arms of her Heavenly Father on Sunday, Jan. 13. Her family and friends surrounded her as she promoted to glory.

She was born in Portland on July 16, 1929. She grew up in the Munjoy Hill area and graduated from Portland High School. She traveled the country as a licensed practical nurse and worked in several hospitals.

She became a soldier of the Salvation Army in 1965. She was very active in the corps from Sunday school teacher, kettle stander, leadership and a volunteer in the office. She was a devoted woman to her God and her family.

She enjoyed spending quality time with her nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by her four children, Charles Beardsley and his wife, Becky, of Indiana, Bob Downs and his wife, Bonnie, of Auburn, Rose Muller and her husband, Henry, of Casco and Captains, Jim Downs and his wife, Patti, of Augusta.
