NORWAY – Dennis John O’Connor, 92, a resident of Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center, formerly a resident of Bucknam Oaks, Mechanic Falls, for more than 20 years, passed away on Jan. 7.

He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 29, 1915, the son of Dennis C. and Glenna Cotton O’Connor. As a young man, he worked in the mills/shoe shops in the Auburn/Lewiston area.

On March 28, 1942, he married the former Phyllis Carter of Readfield. Their marriage lasted 64 years, when Phyllis passed in February 2006. He was lost without Phyllis. They loved to go to the village for special meals and visiting family and friends.

He was a member of the U. S. Army during the 1940s and continued on in the Army Reserves after his discharge. He was a mechanic for many years and later became groundskeeper at Fairlawn Golf Course and at Bucknam Oaks where he resided.

He is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Bartlett of Poland and Florence Surles of California; and a brother, Leroy Merrill of Connecticut.

Anyone who knew him will remember him as a fun-loving independent person, right up to the end of his life.
