FARMINGTON – Charles William Thorson Jr., 87, of Farmington, died Friday evening, Dec. 28, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

He was born on June 25, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Charles W. and Harriet (Hogan) Thorson Sr. He was a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology, in Chicago, and on Nov. 13, 1943, married Doris Virginia Graham at the Methodist Church in Elgin, Ill. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a professional engineer, (thermal dynamic engineer), for Selas Corp. of America in Dresher, Pa.

He was active in the West Chester, Pa., and Augusta chapters of SCORE, an engineering association in Pennsylvania, the 87th Infantry Division Association, the West Chester, Pa., Drug and Alcohol Board, the University of Small Business Development Center at West Chester University and the Gold Leaf Institute of the University of Maine, Farmington.

He enjoyed doing yard work and cooking and was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his entire family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Doris, of Farmington; three daughters, Sue Ann Thorson of Farmington, Judith Lynn Thorson Ackerman Handley of Parrotsville, Tenn., and Janet Carolyn Thorson Schmidt and her husband, Mark, of Graham, Wash.; four grandchildren, Carla Jacqueline Smalley, Brandon Graham Handley, Bonnie Fay Schmidt Rice and Emily Ruth Schmidt; two great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Desiree’ Kelly and Emily Ann Smalley.

He was predeceased by a sister, Virgie Thorson Cole and her husband, CarrollCole.
