LEWISTON – Geraldine M. Burgess, 77, of Bald Hill Road, New Gloucester, passed away on Friday, Nov. 16, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Lewiston Nov. 8, 1930, the daughter of John Murphy and Mae Mary Marr. She was educated in Portland schools and was married to Thomas D. Burgess Sr. on March 9, 1956, in Portland.
She was employed for Fullemm Bros. Seafood Processing in Portland, Humpty Dumpty Potato Chip Co., Brentwood Manor in Yarmouth, the Galley Restaurant at Handy Boat Yard in Falmouth and also made lobster trap heads.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and race cars and was her son-in-law’s No. 1 fan on Wednesday nights at Oxford Plains Speedway.
She is survived by her husband of New Gloucester; two daughters, Catherine McGivney and husband, Colin, of Fairhope, Ala., and Linda Goss and husband, Jerry, of Mechanic Falls; two sons, Thomas Burgess Jr. and wife, Joanne, of North Yarmouth and Peter W. Burgess and wife, Rae-Ann, of Naples; 11 grandchildren, Katie and Kyle Thompson, Adam Doughty, Jerry Goss Jr., Robert, Aimee, Michael, Brandica, Jessica, Kelci and Zachary Burgess; four great-grandchildren, Austin and McKenna Doughty, Gage and Faten Burgess; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Nora Stimpson; and her angel dog, “Tiny.”
