NORWAY – Roger Marcel Favre, 82, of Waldo Street, Rumford, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1925, the son of Marius and Claudia (Faucon) Favre in Rumford, where he attended the Bisbee School and graduated from Stephen’s Memorial High School.
He entered the service on Sept. 8, 1943, where after training, he was sent to Italy and joined the 337th Infantry Regiment and saw service at Cassino, Anzio, with the first company into Rome, across the Arno River and to northern Italy.
He came home in 1945, and then went back to Italy to marry Giuliana Leonardini in 1946. They came home together in 1947, and he worked for Oxford Paper Co. and Boise for 45 years. He worked as a watchman for 15 years, a general helper, piper and many other jobs as well.
He loved to hunt, fish, traveling to Europe on nine different trips, and many other places. He also loved his garden, his vegetables, flowers and his camp at Roxbury Pond. He was an avid carpenter who worked rebuilding his home and his camp.
He was a member of the Robert Shand Post of the VFW, the American Legion, and the Snow Shoe Club, as well as the Boise 25 and 40-year clubs.
He is survived by his nieces, Elsa Crozet and husband, Jean Pierre, of Mystic, Conn., and Tina Chapek and husband, David, of Texas; and a nephew, Steven Jaworski of Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Giuliana Favre Aug. 16, 2005; and a sister, Arlene G. Jaworski.
