FARMINGTON – Bertha Marion Richardson, 100, died Oct. 6 at the Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center, Farmington, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was born in Strong, March 24, 1907, the daughter of Hervy and Ethel (Marson) Vining. Bertha was educated in the schools of Strong and graduated from Strong High School in 1925.
After graduation, she worked in a restaurant in Phillips. At 19, she was employed at the Fosters Mfg. Co. in Strong, and worked there until she retired at 59. She was married to Earlon Richardson on Dec. 24, 1925. At 59, she retired to take care of her ill husband for more than 17 years. He died in 1983.
She loved to garden and did a lot of canning every year for the winter months.
She also put down new floors and sheet rock, and repaired what needed to be. Bertha sewed most of her clothes, and made blouses for her nieces. After her husband died, Bertha lived by herself with Bo, her Boston terrier dog, for many years.
She also raised cattle, had many cats and chickens. Bertha loved the Red Sox and made her home in Avon all of her life.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
