LEWISTON – Robert E. Fecteau, 87, of Montello Heights, Lewiston, passed away suddenly on Oct. 3, to join his beloved wife, Helen, in heaven.
Bob was born in Waterville on Oct. 22, 1919, the son of Raoul and Lenora (Reny) Fecteau. He was educated in Waterville schools, graduating from Waterville High in 1936. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1940, and graduated from officer candidate school and commissioned a second lieutenant in 1942. He was assigned to the U.S. Army Air Force headquarters in England and served as executive adjutant general in England, France and Germany. He graduated from the command and general staff college in 1945, and returned to Germany. He was discharged as a major in 1946.
He worked for the Maine Employment Security Commission from 1946 to 1961 and was manager of the Lewiston employment office from 1960 to 1961, when he was appointed state director of Veterans Employment Services under the U.S. Department of Labor. He retired in June 1979.
He and his wife, Helen, moved to Florida in 1987. They were avid golfers and members of Lakeland Cleveland Golf and Country Club. They were also members of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Lakeland, and during the last five years he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Lewiston.
His wife of 56 years, Helen, predeceased him in July 2002, and he moved back to Maine to be with his children.
He is survived by a sister, Lorraine Evans and husband, Paul, of Waterville; his six children, Sandra Bruno and husband, Anthony, of Hebron, Robin Lamb of Portland, James and wife, Maureen, of Freeport, Richard and partner, Barbara Workman, of Farmington, Timothy and wife, Karen, of Westbrook and Mary Feltovic and husband, Dan, of Raymond; he and Helen have 10 grandchildren, G. Edward Maroon IV and wife, Dolly, of Mechanic Falls, Steven Maroon and wife, Claudine, of Chantilly, Va., Kristina Drouin and husband, Joe, of Durham, Noah Fecteau of Freeport, Kate Fecteau of Lisbon Falls, Kristopher, Nicole and Jennifer Fecteau of Westbrook and Alyson and Samantha Feltovic of Raymond.
He was also predeceased by a brother, Raymond of Port Richey, Fla.
