GEORGETOWN – Seldon N. Dailey Jr., 89, formerly of Canton for many years, died Saturday, Sept. 29, at his residence on the Indian Point Road, Georgetown.
He was born in Canton on Aug. 2, 1918. He was the son of Hattie (Dailey) Russell and Seldon N. Dailey Sr. He had attended Canton schools and Canton High School.
Seldon worked at the Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford for over 32 years until retirement in 1980.
He was a life member of the VFW Post 3335 of Jay. He was dearly loved by his children and wife. He was an avid guitar player; he also played the harmonica and the accordion. He would always entertain his daughter and their friends by singing and playing while they did the dishes after evening meals. In his early years he hunted, fished, ice skated and down hill skied. He rode his motorcycle and snow machine until he was 78 years old.
He was married in Livermore on July 24, 1937, to the former Ruth Brackett. They were married 68 years until her death in Brunswick on Nov. 29, 2005.
Survivors include daughters Sharon Gaudin and husband, Peter, of Georgetown, Cynthia Thebarge and husband, Wayne, of Colchester, Vt., and Joanne Ball and husband, Carl, of Rockport, Texas.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Arnold Dailey; and seven brothers and sisters.
