PORTLAND – Donald J. Farnum Sr., 83, of Woodstock, died Sept. 17, at Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Woodstock on Sept. 5, 1924, the son of the late Clarence and Mary (Buck) Farnum and was educated in Milton schools in the Little Red Schoolhouse.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, had worked as a woodsman and most recently for Ladd Farms for more than 35 years. He was devoted to his family and they were his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed four-wheeling and tending to his animals.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Grace (Gilks) Farnum of Woodstock; two sons, Donald Farnum Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and David Farnum Sr. of Bryant Pond; three daughters, Carolyn Mercado of Orange Park, Fla., Deborah McKenna of Bryant Pond and Melissa Daigle of Dixfield; one sister, Rose Dyer of Bethel and Florida; 13 grandchildren, Diane, Chris, Adrienne, Jessica, Cory, Jason, Kristin, David Jr., Devin, Darren, Dustin, CJ and Megan; 18 great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Drew, Xander, Kyle, Nickolas, Joey, Kelsey, Kaylee, Kaitlyn, Hailey, Cadence, Blake, Gracie, Rilan, Lee, McKenzie, Natasha and Nicole; and two nieces, Pat and Nancy.

He was predeceased by his parents; and one grandson, Eric Buck in 1981.
