RANGELEY – Patricia (Patty) Gagnon, 58, of Mitigwa Road, passed away on Sept. 14, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Rumford on March 14, 1949, to Sylvio and Anita Gagnon. She was a graduate of the former Stephens High School in Rumford. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in teaching at the University of Maine at Farmington, while raising her two young sons. Patty later completed her master’s equivalency in speech pathology, which she practiced for many years in Pownal, Rumford and Rangeley.

She represented a celebration of life in everything she did. She loved every aspect of the outdoors and Rangeley, in particular. She enjoyed fly-fishing and even tied her own flies. You could see her enjoying all Rangeley had to offer during every season – from kayaking, hiking and picking blueberries in the summer to cross-country and downhill skiing in the winter.

She was a Maine state shooting champion for sporting clays and a nine-time trek across Maine rider. Additionally, she was a registered Maine guide and conducted yearly river surveys for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. She volunteered for the Sugarloaf Competition Center and was a member of the Rangeley Guides and Sportsman’s Club, TRAC and Walkabout Club.

She leaves behind two wonderful sons, Tom Patterson of Newburyport, Mass., and Dan Patterson of Rangeley; two special daughters-in-law, Kristin and Heather; a beautiful granddaughter, Ella Jane; and another grandchild due in December; and her sister, Sylvia Harlow of Portland.
