TOGUS – Henry S. Bruneau, 83, of Andrews Street, Poland, passed away on Friday, Sept. 7, at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
He was born at Lac Megantic, Canada, May 3, 1924, the son of Valmore and Alice Grenier Bruneau. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 3rd Infantry Division in Germany, Italy, Sicily, Anzio Beachhead and southern France and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star and the distinguished Unit Citation.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a foreman at Diamond Machine Co.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and earned the Biggest Buck Club Award in 1953. In his younger years, he umpired college baseball and softball. His special place in the state of Maine was Range Pond, where he was often seen enjoying the area.
He was married Jan. 12, 1956, to Jacqueline Fitzsimmons, and she predeceased him March 25, 1993.
He is survived by two daughters, Joyce StPierre of Auburn and Pauline Maxwell of Lisbon Falls; two sons, Stephen Bruneau and wife, Diane, and David Bruneau, all of Poland; four sisters, Rita Spencer and Simonne Bruneau, both of Auburn, Fern Clavet of Lewiston and Jeannine Stuhr of Illinois; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lucien Bruneau.
