OXFORD – Martha Birney, 87, of Oxford, died Monday, Aug. 27, at her residence.

She was born in Poland on Oct. 21, 1919, the daughter of Fredrick and Blanche (Rowe) Birney. She was a graduate of Mechanic Falls High School.

She was a founding member of the Busy Bees of Bailey Hill, worked at C.B. Cummings and was a long-time employee at Twitchell’s Farm Equipment.

She taught her nieces and nephews her love of flowers and birds. She loved to play canasta with her friends and family and to do – be it word seeks, knitting or going somewhere. She will be dearly missed by all.

Survivors include a cousin, Marie Kuvaja and family; nieces and nephews, John, Loan, Neil and Karl Spear, Martha (Oman) Michaud, Nancy (Oman) McKinney and Ellen Oman; and 11 great and six great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lois (Birney) Spear, Margaret (Birney) Oman and Elvira Birney.
