NEW BRUNSWICK, Canada – Joseph H.A. Cushman, 74, formerly of Hebron and most recently of Hartford, died Sunday, July 27, while vacationing on Campobello Island, New Brunswick.

He was born in Lewiston on June 6, 1933, the son of Dwight P. Cushman and Mary Melinda MacDougall.

He served on the Acushnet in the U.S. Coast Guard. He worked as a logger in Hebron for many years.

He was a ranger at Baxter State Park and worked on the Maine Turnpike.

He loved fishing and enjoyed the outdoors. After retiring, he loved to go to yard sales and enjoyed going to the White Mountains and the coast of Maine. One of his favorite places to visit was Campobello Island, where he had visited for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his companion of the past five years, Betty Hutchins, of Hartford; three daughters, Malinda Medlin and her husband, Stephen, of Richmond, Ind.; Deborah Rocco and her husband, David, of Ipswich, Mass; and Lisa Cushman and her husband, Kent Chaplin, of Lovell; four grandchildren, Luke Medlin of Norfolk, Va., Marion Dates of Dayton, Ohio, and Tracey and Alexis Chaplin of Lovell; five great-grandchildren, Hope, Farrah and Karsten Fox and Macy and Jaxson Medlin.
