Farmington – Joann Coolidge, 67, of North Jay, died early Tuesday morning at Franklin Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Lexington, March 21, 1940, a daughter of Ronald and Roseilla (Wacom) Pinkham and received her education in New Portland schools. She was very athletic and in the eighth grade was chosen to play on the varsity basketball team as well as being selected as an all-star.
At the age of 14, she started working at Franklin County Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide and later worked at Norwock Shoe. She then was employed by the state of Maine Department of Human Services for 11 years and was in the first graduating homemaker class. She was a co-founder of Happy Horseshoe Campground and worked as a bookkeeper and paymaster for DMC Inc.
Mrs. Coolidge enjoyed many activities, including both downhill and water skiing as well as playing softball and tennis. She also loved gardening, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling. She was a devoted wife and mother who handled her family duties and working career tirelessly for years. She was a giver; giving care and support to all who crossed her path and was a true inspiration to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Clinton H. Coolidge of North Jay, whom she married on Aug. 2, 1958, in North New Portland; her children, Chris Searle and her husband, Mark, of Warren, Valerie Floyd and her husband, Sonny, of North Jay, and Clinton Coolidge Jr. and his wife, Kimberly, of Wilton; her mother, Roseilla Pinkham and her companion, Warren Viles, of North New Portland; a brother, Ronald “Buster” Pinkham and his wife, Judy, of Embden; sisters, Verletta Lowell and her husband, Willy, of Buckfield, Celia Dow and her husband, Merv, of Clinton, and Doreen Pinkham and her companion, Kevin, of Solon; grandchildren, Jesse Oliver of Warren, Shawn Floyd and his wife, Katrina, of Searsport, Craig Coolidge of Manchester, Chester Coolidge and his companion, Lindsay Gray, of Wilton, Kathleen Prestridge and Carolyn Rose Coolidge, both of Wilton, and Sarah and Sam Searle, both of Kennebunk; great-grandchildren, Jacob Floyd, Makaylah Gordon and Damien Gordon, all of Searsport; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Violet Pinkham, Corrine Brown and Joyce Philbrick; and her father, Ronald Pinkham.
The family wishes to extend its thanks and appreciation to the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit staff and doctors at FMH. Also a very special thanks to Dr. Heidi Decker and her nurse, Diane Pearson, for the care and comfort of Joann.
