FALMOUTH – Geneva S. Reed, 95, a resident of Falmouth by the Sea, and a former resident of Merrill Hill Road in Greene, died Aug. 8 in Falmouth.

She was born Feb. 12, 1912, in Trescott, the daughter of Edgieson and Edith (Kelley) Scott. She graduated from Shead Memorial High School in Eastport, where she grew up; she also graduated from Maine State Normal School in Machias, where she was awarded a lifelong teaching certificate in 1931.

She began her teaching career in a one-room school, first at the Mann School in Leeds, where she taught from 1931 to 1935. She then went to the Morse, Mountain and Patten schools in Greene and then later to the Greene Central School, where she continued to teach until retiring in 1976.

A lifelong learner, she received a B.S. in education from the University of Maine at Orono in 1963. On Feb. 26, 1942, in Eastport she married Clifton S. Reed. He passed away in 1993 after 51 years of marriage.

She was a member of NEA, MEA, Androscoggin Retired Teachers Association, the Androscoggin Grange No. 8 for more than 70 years, and the Greene Baptist Church for more than 65 years, where she also served as treasurer for many years.

She was a founding trustee of the Julia Adams Morse Memorial Library in Greene, where she served as a trustee from 1956 to 1991. She enjoyed cooking and being active in the community.

She is survived by a son, Stanley Reed, and his wife, Kathy Hillman Reed, of Falmouth; and two grandsons, Thomas F. Reed of Boston and Douglas H. Reed of Falmouth.

She was predeceased by a brother, Bartlett P. Scott, in 1997.
