WEST PARIS – Roger Jackson Brigham, 102, died at the Ledgeview Living Center on Aug. 4.
He was born in New York City on March 8, 1905, the son of Frederick and Helen (Jackson) Brigham. He graduated from Princeton University in 1928, and also held a certificate in french language and literature from the University of Rennes, France.
He was head of the foreign language department at Clifford Scott High School in East Orange, N.J., where he taught French. He taught French and Spanish for the adult education program in Montclair, N.J., and also at Rutgers University extension classes.
In 1959, he moved to Farmington, Conn., where he taught French at Miss Porter’s School until 1969. He and his wife retired to Sumner in 1970. He served as organist and choir director in several churches in New Jersey and also in Sumner. He was the holder of the Boston Post cane as the oldest resident of Sumner.
He is survived by his daughter, Helen Holman, and her husband, Wayne, of Litchfield; two grandchildren, Amy McDonough, and her husband, David, of Lunenburg, Mass., and Charles Hutchings, and his wife, Melissa and great-grandchild, Kyrsta, all of Front Royal, Va.
He was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne in March 1990.
