LISBON — Taurus the Clown will hang up his red nose and floppy shoes after the Moxie Festival parade on Saturday, culminating 56 years of “clowning” in area parades and celebrations.
Taurus, who has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, will not walk the parade as in past years. He will ride on a specially designed float decorated with, among other things, a curtain of Moxie cans that he made himself.
Also known as Fred Goldrup, Taurus grew up in Lisbon Falls. He will “hold court” at Frank Anicetti’s Moxie Store after the parade for those who want to say farewell.
This year’s Moxie Day parade will be Fred Goldrup’s 26th and last as Taurus the Clown. Taurus is named for Goldrup’s birth sign.
