FARMINGTON – Victor D. Mercier, 78, of Livermore Falls, passed away Saturday, June 2, after a winning battle with cancer at the Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, surrounded by his loving family. They were pulled together in his last few hours and created a joyous environment filled with much laughter.

He was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Livermore Falls, a son of Wilfred A. and Rose (Lemay) Mercier.

On June 5, 1950, he married Lorraine E. Richard of Livermore. They made their home in Livermore Falls, where Victor worked with his sawmill and operated various equipment.

He was a quiet, reserved and giving man, who had a tremendous work ethic for his wife and children.

He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and the music he enjoyed playing so much recently in his life.

He could be seen playing his steel guitar at the gazebo in Livermore Falls, the VFW in Jay, local nursing homes or Larry Bisbee’s in East Dixfield.

He and his band, “Roped & Branded” traveled to Connecticut in 2005 to compete and placed third as the traditional country band of the year. In 2006, they won another award in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., for their vocals.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lorraine of Livermore Falls; three daughters, Cathy Johnson of Eau Claire, Wis., Nancy Chicoine of Livermore, and Lori Bryant of Livermore Falls; a son, Donald Mercier of Livermore Falls; a brother, Roland Mercier of Livermore Falls; sisters, Alice and Yvonne Judd of Livermore Falls; a sister-in-law, Gloria Tremblay of Livermore Falls; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
