LEWISTON – Ronald Dean Barrow, 46, a long-time resident of Lewiston, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, May 27.

Ron was born in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Phil and Jackie Barrow. Raised in the Highland Park area of the city, he was a particularly daring young boy, once even riding a small bicycle off a six foot wall on a dare. Surviving his childhood, he graduated from Franklin High School in 1978.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1984, and spent four years stationed on the USS Carl-Vinson CVN-70, where he was trained as a fireman. He often told of exciting and dangerous encounters on board, but, of course, he was just as proud of his “shore leave” stories!

One of his outstanding virtues was his honesty. He was known in the family as never being able to tell a lie, always telling the truth, regardless of the consequences, many times causing himself undue trouble and difficulty when even the smallest of “white lies” would have enriched him greatly.

After his Navy years, he worked in the construction field in Los Angeles, before moving to Maine. For the past many years, he had been employed by Busy Bee working at d’Youville Pavilion.

In fact he was recently wed to Janice Boyll and had met her while working at d’Youville. You could say he always had his mind on work! He loved reading and spending time at his computer playing computer games. He loved UFOs for their mystery, but most of all he loved watching South Park with Janice. He also carried a deep and abiding faith in Jesus Christ, believing in His saving power of grace and had committed his life to him.

He will be deeply missed by his family. He was a loving caring, decent man who always remembered to tell you he loved you before ending a conversation or phone call.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; his father, Phil; sister, Julie; brother, Glenn; and many other relatives and countless friends who feel themselves fortunate for having known such a fine man.

He was predeceased by his mother, Jackie Barrow in January 2006.
