LEWISTON – Shirley R. Montgomery, 88, a life-long resident of Auburn, passed away Thursday, May 10.
She was born in Auburn, June 25, 1918, to her parents, George S. and Angie M. (Bickford) Jordan, also longtime Auburn residents. She attended Auburn schools and worked many years at Pineland Center, retiring in 1977.
She married Alan Montgomery in 1935, and he preceded her in death after 52 years of marriage. She was a member of the AMVETS Post 6, the Maine State Employees’ Retirement Association, Robin Dow Senior Citizens, Auburn Senior Citizens and New Gloucester Senior Citizens. She was a devoted mother to her son, Robert, who predeceased her in 1995.
She leaves four grandchildren, to whom she was a loving grandmother, Robert Montgomery Jr., and his wife, Giselle, of Johnson City, Tenn., Alan Montgomery of Buckfield, Sherrie Langley of Nevada and David Montgomery of Buckley, Wash..; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-law, Judith Montgomery of Tacoma, Wash.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alan Montgomery; her son, Robert Montgomery; a nine-month old infant son, Alan Montgomery Jr.; two sisters, Lucy Magno and Angie Gidings; and three brothers, George, Richard and Joseph Jordan.
