LEWISTON – Marie Rose Whitten, 95, of 10 Oak Park, Lewiston, died Tuesday, May 8, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 11, 1911, in St. Isidore d’Aukland, Canada, the daughter of Xavier and Frenina Roy Labonte. She became a U.S. citizen in 1930, and on Aug. 2, 1930, she was married to Harold L. Whitten, who passed away on Nov. 17, 1959.

She was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, and was employed in the local shoe industry for many years. Even as her health declined, her mind stayed sharp and she enjoyed the company of her family and friends.

Survivors include a sister, Alma Labonte of Auburn; a daughter-in-law, Rachel Whitten of Lewiston; seven grandchildren, Stephen Whitten, and wife, Brigitte, of Lewiston, Linda, and husband, Randy Shrader, of Fredericksburg, Va., Rita Gauthier of Sabattus, David Whitten, and wife, Anna, of Newton, Mass., Diane Whitten, James Whitten and Eric Whitten, and wife, Amy, all of Lewiston; 17 great-grandchildren, Celia, and husband, Angus Mawhinney, of Lewiston, Candace Whitten of Lewiston, Alex, Lauren and Luke Shrader of Fredericksburg, Va., Alison and Jordan Gauthier of Lewiston, Gina and Alissa Whitten of Newton, Mass., Katie and Melissa Ritchie of Lewiston and Matthew, Stephanie, Patrick, Ryan, Michael and Benjamin Whitten, all of Lewiston; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her much beloved sons, William in 2001, Richard, who died at the age of 3 and Ronald, who died at birth; three sisters and their husbands, Emma and Wilfred Nadeau, Rose and Eugene Boisvert and Blanche and Henry Roberge; and a brother and his wife, Alfred and Florida Labonte.

The family would like to thank the nursing staffs at Bolster Heights and Marshwood nursing homes, and a special thanks to the nursing staff at CMMC for the comfort care which they provided her during her final two weeks.
