STATESBORO, Ga. – Obeline “Obie” M. Waugh, 100, of Orchard Street in Mexico, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 3, while visiting her son, Wilfred, and granddaughter, Judy, in Statesboro, Ga.

She was born in St. Louis, PEI, Canada, on June 8, 1906, a daughter of Joseph and Philomine Arsenault.

She attended St. John’s School.

She married William J. “Bill” Waugh on Aug. 29, 1930. Together they celebrated 57 years of marriage. He passed away on Oct. 10, 1987.

She was employed for several years at Oxford Paper Co..

The family remembers their mom as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.

Obie was a warm-hearted, generous, very self-sufficient, young-at-heart woman, who lived life to the fullest and was not afraid to tackle any job, big or small.

At the age of 85, she went parasailing in Cancun, Mexico.

She was a communicant of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and St. Theresa’s Guild. She was instrumental in starting the Friday Night Cribbage Club at St. Theresa’s.

She enjoyed being outdoors and loved to fish, and looked forward to her many trips to the Rangeley Lake area.

She loved to knit and donated hundreds of pairs of mittens each year for needy children. She also loved berry-picking.

She is survived by her three sons, Kenneth A. Waugh and companion, Phyllis Young, of Byron, Eugene A. Waugh and wife, Beverly, of Mexico, and Wilfred J. Waugh of Statesboro, Ga.; a daughter, Jacqueline A. Waite and husband, James, of Mexico; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, William J. “Bill” Waugh; a stepdaughter, Jeannette Jarry; daughter-in-law, Anita Waugh; adopted daughter, Edie Gallant; two sisters, Emma Barney and Jacqueline LaCroix; three brothers, Arthur, Andrew and Maurice Arsenault; a grandson, Gary Waugh; and a granddaughter, Gail Waugh.
