RUMFORD – Dorothy June Stearns, 69, died Tuesday, May 1, at the Rumford Hospital. She was a resident of the East Bethel Road in Rumford Corner.
She was born in East Bethel, on June 1, 1937, a daughter of David and Myra (Maxwell) Foster. She graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel, Class of 1955. She was the treasurer for Mount Zircon Chapter 142 OES; treasurer and secretary of Rumford Corner Village Improvement Society. She was the field trial secretary of the Androscoggin Valley Beagle Club for 17 years. She had been active in the Alder River Grange in East Bethel. She was “A Cook of the Week,” where she was featured in the Sun Journal. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, gardening and cooking. She was a passionate Red Sox fan like her mother and loved her family and being Gram.
She was married in Rumford Corner, on Sept. 6, 1956, to Richard R. Stearns, who survives of Rumford Corner.
Other survivors include a son, Daniel Stearns, and his wife, Mary, of Rumford Point; a daughter, Linda Westleigh, and her husband, Richard, of Rumford Corner; five grandchildren, Cory, Erin, and Adam Stearns, all of Rumford Point and Eric and Shanna Westleigh of Rumford Corner; two sisters, Clara Hamlin of South Waterford and Josephine Bradeen, and her husband, Blaine, of Auburn; a brother, John Foster, and his wife, Agnes, of Andover; and an uncle Albert Foster of East Bethel; several nieces and nephews; and her many friends.
