Lewiston – Denis J. Ouellette, 55, of Lewiston, died in his home after a courageous four year battle with dermatomyositis and cancer.

He was born in Lewiston, April 13, 1952, the son of Camille and Claire Plante Ouellette. He graduated from Lewiston High School with the class of 1970.

On Aug. 7, 1981, he married the former Elaine Landry, the love-of-his-life, at Holy Family Church, where he was also a member. He worked for many years with his extended families at Longchamps and Sons Excavation, followed by a plumbing career at Ranor Inc. of Jay. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting with his brother Bob, and fishing with his cousin Roland. He was a sports enthusiast who dedicated many years to coaching t-ball, baseball, was once the VP and coach of FLY Football, volunteered much of his time to the Lewiston Middle School, Lewiston High School athletics, and also several travel basketball teams. He was a Red Sox and Patriots fan, especially of Teddy Bruschi, who was his inspiration to him.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; his son, Greg (Bud) Ouellette; and his daughter, Stephanie Manson and her husband, Jeff, all of Lewiston. He also leaves behind his mother, Claire Ouellette, of Lewiston; three brothers, Albert Ouellette of Manchester, N.H., Robert Ouellette and his wife, Doris, of Greene, and Marc Ouellette and his wife, Deborah, of Norwich Conn. Included in the family he leaves behind, is his wife’s family, who always considered him as their son and brother as well.

He also leaves behind his loyal companion, Roxy, also known as his “healing dog,” Michael Hill and his family of Lewiston, who was like a son to him, and several other families that he and his wife ‘adopted’ throughout the years.

He will be sadly missed by all, and will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. Denis will be deeply missed by his neighborhood family, especially the neighborhood children who he always loved so dearly.

His entire family would also like to extend their sincere gratitude to everyone at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Androscoggin Home Health, especially Lisa, Androscoggin Hospice Services, and Dr. Brian Keroack and his nurse, Teresa, of Portland, who cared for him so lovingly through his most difficult years.

He was predeceased by his father, Camille Ouellette; his sister, Irene C. Harvey; and his father-in-law, Raymond Landry.
