LEWISTON – Robert Gage Barr, 85, of Arnold Drive, Lisbon, died Sunday morning, April 15, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., Aug. 29, 1921, the son of Ralph and Doris (Gage) Barr. He attended schools in Medford and Needham, Mass., and graduated from Portsmouth High School, Class of 1939. He later attended the University of New Hampshire, taking courses in mechanical drawing and graduated from State of New Hampshire Trade School in 1947, completing his courses in sheet metal fabrication.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. Following his service to his country, he worked for Jordan and Haley Sheet Metal, in Biddeford, Hamilton and Son Sheet Metal, in Auburn, and later owned and operated Formed Metal Craft Inc., in Mechanic Falls, until his retirement in 1982. Following his retirement, he worked part time as an estimator for Frank Jordan Sheet Metal.

He was a member of AMVETS in Biddeford and Kennebunk, and the American Legion in Kennebunk and Mechanic Falls. He enjoyed camping, golfing and music of all kinds, but his greatest joy was the love of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

He is survived by his three daughters, Patricia Randall and husband, Arnold, of Windham, Judy Binette of Saco, and Dodie Vasiliauskas and husband, Mark, of Greene; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; his brother, Ralph and wife, Betty, of New Hampshire and Florida; his sister-in-law, Claire Mehlhorn of New Hampshire; and by several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Dolly Clough; and his second wife, Beverly Mehlhorn, who died in 1990; his five children, Tommy, Billy, Bobby, Brian and Nancy.
