VENICE, Fla. – Hazel M. Stevens, 81, a resident of 66 Gasparilla Lane, Nokomis, Fla., died Wednesday, April 4, at the Harbor Chase of Venice Nursing Home following a long battle with cancer, with her loving husband by her side.

She was born in Auburn on May 17, 1925, the daughter of Oscar and Gladys (Bubier) Adkins.

She attended Auburn schools and was a 1944 graduate of Edward Little High School. She raised her family in Auburn and was a popular waitress at the former Sim’s Restaurant in Auburn for 19 years, and then moved on to Tambrands in Auburn for 10 years as a supervisor until her retirement.

She was a life member of the AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 6 of New Gloucester. Her hobbies included crafts and being the perfect hostess at home for family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Stevens of Nokomis, Fla., formerly of Auburn, whom she married Oct. 2, 1976; three sons, Wesley Rogers Jr., and his wife, Deannie, of Gray, Stephen Rogers of Homestead, Fla., and Jeffrey Stevens and his wife, Jeannie, of Venice, Fla.; three daughters, Judy Carver and her husband, Ron, of Poland, Kathleen Burden and her husband, Wendell of Gardner, Kan., and Elaine Higgins and her husband, Basil, of Freedom; one brother, Robert Adkins of Auburn; 20 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one brother, Harold Adkins; and three sisters, Frances Davis, Edith Macomber, and an infant sister, Evelyn Adkins.
