DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Pauline M. Traister, 98, formerly of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 16, at the Forum at Deer Creek.

Lovingly called “Poppy,” she was born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Nov. 22, 1908, the daughter of Jacob and Sonia Miller.

A graduate of the University of New Hampshire and an avid reader of literature, she passed on her passion for reading to the visually impaired by translating books into Braille. A woman of sharp intellect, she kept abreast of current events, politics and sports, up until the end of her life.

She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of more than 50 years, Charles Traister, who died in 1987. A lifelong member of Hadassah, she belonged to both Temple Shalom and Temple Beth El.

She loved her family very much and is survived by daughter-in-law Sandra Traister, of Auburn; grandson, Michael Traister and wife, Christina, of North Yarmouth; granddaughter, Carolyn Schiff and husband, Dan, of New York, N.Y.; granddaughter, Lauren Traister, of Morrisville, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. She was especially fond of her four great-grandchildren Scott and Zachary Schiff, of New York, N.Y., and Sarah and Elisabeth Traister, of North Yarmouth.

Her four beloved older sisters, Elizabeth, Alice, Ann and Shirley, all predeceased her; she was also predeceased by the couple’s son, Barry M. Traister, who passed away in 1989.
