FARMINGTON – Mary L. Chiaravalloti, 93, of 16 Masterman Avenue, Wilton, passed away on Monday, March 5, with loving family by her side.
She was born in Canton on Oct. 18, 1913, the daughter of Lorenzo and Giovana (Decosta) Lavorgna. She graduated valedictorian and was also the first student at Canton High School to become a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from Farmington State Normal School in 1934.
She was married at St. Rose de Lima Church, Jay, on June 22, 1937, to Antonio Chiaravalloti. He died in 1996.
She taught school for eight years in North Livermore, Jay and Riley.
She and her husband purchased a general store in Dryden, which they operated for 37 years. She was also a member of Wiltona, a federated women’s club, for more than 40 years.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Wilton, until it closed, and then became a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Farmington.
She is survived by her children, Bettina Martin of Dixfield, Antonette Lilienthal and her husband, Frank, of Jonesport, Donna Cialfi and her husband, Gary, of Armonk, N.Y., and Frank Chiaravalloti and his wife, Deborah, of Newbury, Mass.; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Sebastian, Michael, Nicolas, Albert and Louis Lavorgna; and three sisters, Alberta Drigotas, Josephine Desjardin and Ella Lisso.
