LEWISTON – Frederick P. Liberty, 70, of 26 Linden St., in Auburn, passed away early Tuesday morning Feb. 27, at CMMC after a short illness.

He was the son of Frederick and Margaret Liberty, who predeceased him. He was born in Rochester, NH on Jan. 17, 1937.

He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1955 and from the University of Maine in June 1959, with a B.S. in chemistry.

He worked for Lilly Corp. in Old Town for two years before returning to UMO, where he received a certificate in pulp and paper.

He then went to work for S.D. Warren in Westbrook, retiring after 30 years as head of the technical service department. Fred was an avid outdoorsman, spending many of his early years hunting and fishing in the Sebago Lake area as well as other areas in the northeast.

He was a registered Maine Guide and had served on the Maine Waterfowl Advisory Committee.

In retirement he took up trapshooting, winning various awards and championships in various states. He was an officer in the Maine Trap Association and a delegate to the Amateur Trap Association.

He is survived by his brother, Normand Liberty and his wife, Judy, of Yarmouth; a nephew, Frederick Liberty of Olympia, Wash.; a niece, Lisa Liberty Becker, her husband, Robert, and their children, True and Tate of Concord, Mass.; and his special companion, Dorothy Crowley Noel of Auburn.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his sister, Gail Liberty of San Antonio, Texas.
