AUBURN – Irving “Red” Leon Cushman, 79, passed away Feb. 19, from emphysema.
He was born on July 15, 1927, the seventh of eight children, to George and Lena Francis Cushman in Woodstock.
He went on to graduate from Woodstock High School and the University of Maine with a degree in agriculture.
He worked with Ralston Purina, Clay Equipment, Blue Seal Feed and New England Serum before retiring in 1982.
He enjoyed retirement by golfing, gardening, motorcycle travel, bowling, horseshoes, reading, playing cards and spending time with his family. He and his wife, June, were permanent fixtures at their grandchildren’s sporting events.
He married June Bryant in 1950 and is survived by his wife of 56 years; his daughter, Iris and husband, Robert Obie, of Turner; a son, Dale and wife, Deborah, of Augusta; grandchildren, Eric Obie and wife, Laura, of Williamsburg, Va., Angela Bivins and husband, Donnie, of Denton, Texas, Joshua Cushman of Charlestown, Ma., and Jared Cushman of Boston, Ma.; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Conner Bivins, of Denton, Texas; sisters, Erma Mcguire, Beatrice Felt, and Avis Coolidge; many nieces and nephews; and family friend, Elizabeth Chadwick of Augusta.
