AUBURN – Margaret “Peggy” MacFarlane Wilcox, 88, of Auburn, formerly of Rangeley, died Saturday, Feb. 10, at Clover Manor.

She was born Feb. 28, 1918, in Bangor, a daughter of John R. and Lucy Helen (Haskell) MacFarlane. She received her education in New York schools and Farmington Normal School, graduating from UMF with a degree in Education.

In 1942, she married James E. Wilcox in Portland. He died Aug. 28, 2003.

She was a devoted wife and mother. She taught school in Stratton for one year and was a beloved kindergarten teacher in Rangeley for many years.

She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Rangeley, was active in supporting the Rangeley Public Library and was a member of the Garden Club. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and was a quiet lady who devoted her energy to her family, her school children and tending her flower gardens. She also enjoyed knitting, reading and birdwatching.

She is usrvived by one son, Jim Wilcox, and his wife, Kathryn, of Dallas Plt.; one daughter, Judy Smith, and her husband, Randall, of Hebron; four grandchildren, Jennifer Mondore, Curtis Smith, Katrina Hagberg and James D. Wilcox; seven great-grandchildren, Joanna Linne Strong, Jordan Strong, Benjamin Mondore, Jacob Mondore, Brianna Lynn Smith, Brandon Smith and Alexander Smith.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Helen MacFarlane; and a brother, John MacFarlane.
