RUMFORD – Wayne E. Newton, 55, of Cumberland Street, formerly of Buckfield, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, at his residence, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Lewiston, on Nov. 20, 1951, a son of Eldred E. and Norma G. (Barrett) Newton. He was educated in Buckfield schools and was a graduate of Buckfield Jr. – Sr. High School.

He was a musician and carpenter all of his life. He loved to support his children in their many activities. He was a member of the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed playing bingo and collecting Indian artifacts.

He is survived by his wife, Karen A. Newton of Rumford; four sons, Matthew Newton, and wife, Lisa, of New Hampshire, Christopher Newton of Portland, Paul Newton, and wife, Karen, of Portland and Arron Gallant, and wife, Angela, of Rumford; three daughters, Jessica Newton, and companion, Jim Foy, of Auburn, Erica Cunningham, and companion, Jody, of Buxton and Michelle Greenleaf of Rumford; a sister, Lola Newton and a brother, Alan Newton, both of Sumner; four grandchildren, Emily Newton, Isaac Gallant, Rian Gallant and William Gallant; his beloved cat, Smokey Jo; and mother-in-law, Rita Gallant of Rumford.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Gilbert Newton.
