NORWAY – Lena E. Taylor, 82, of Norway, known by her friends as “Lee,” lost her battle with cancer and passed away quietly on Jan. 12, at Stephens Memorial Hospital. Her loving family and a helpful hospital staff surrounded her.
She was born on May 14, 1924, in Kensington, Maryland, the sixth child of Seaman and Lena (Blundon) Raynor.
She took a commercial course of studies in high school and became proficient at secretarial work.
During World War II, she advanced to an upper level as a clerk in the United States General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C.
Most recently, she spent 12 years as a secretary in the maintenance and transportation departments of S.A.D. 17.
She was active in both American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, and is a past president of Unit 72 in South Paris.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James W. Taylor Jr., of Norway; daughters, Patricia A. Knotts and husband, Stanley, of Laytonsville, Md., Mary E. Fox and husband, Albert, of Stoneham, Janet L. Schmidt and husband, Keith, of Fallon, Nev.; and her son, James W. Taylor, III and wife, Jan, of Caldwell, Idaho; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
