TAMPA, Fla. – Michael Richard Danforth, 59, of Auburn, died at Tampa General Hospital in Florida, of cardiac arrest on Dec. 8. His eldest son, Michael II, and his childhood sweetheart and longtime companion, June Chartier, were at his side.
He was born on Feb. 15, 1947, in Lewiston, the son of Beverly Malia and Sydney Danforth. He was raised by foster parents, Sue and Donald Kenney of Auburn.
He attended Auburn schools and the University of Maine. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After living in Vermont for many years, he returned to Auburn and had been the service advisor at Delekto Brothers Inc. for the past few years.
He enjoyed his friends at the American Legion Post 153 in Auburn and especially their fishing trips to Jackman. He collected friends as easily as he did his hats. He will be missed by the many people who enjoyed his company, humor and laugh.
He is survived by his children, Michael II of Old Town; twin daughters, Megan and Morgan; son, Eric, and daughter, Shannon, of Vermont; his grandson, Michael III of Lewiston; cousin, Donna Doyon, and husband, Larry, of Minot; and many siblings.
He was predeceased by his parents; his foster parents; and foster brother, Arthur Kenney.
