LEWISTON – Claire Rossignol, 89, of 33 Roger St., and formerly a resident of Montello Heights, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
She was born in St. Leonard, New Brunswick, Canada, on Jan. 30, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Adele (Lavoie) Tardif and had been a resident of this community for most of her life.
She had been a homemaker throughout her life.
She was a member of the Gold Star Mother, Knights of Columbus Auxilary Council 106, La Survivante Francaise, Dame St. Anne, Association Canado American, St. Peter and Paul Society and the Daughters of Isabella.
She married Willard Rossignol on April 10, 1936, and he died on June 29, 2002.
She and her husband retired in Jacksonville, Fla., for 20 years returning to Maine in 1997. In Florida, she was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Ladies Guild, St. Anne’s Circle and the Third Order of Mary.
She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, bingo and her yearly travels from Maine to Florida. She also spent many summers at Tacoma Lake. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Maxine Shanks, husband, Bob, of Jacksonville, Fla. and Barbara Hughes of Lewiston; three sons, Roger Rossignol, wife, Gloria, of Tinton Falls, N.J., Robert Rossignol, wife, Lou Ann, of Riverdale, Ga. and Rod Rossignol, wife, Cynthia, of Charlotte, N.C.; four sisters, Dorilla Michaud of Enfield, Conn., Adrienne Carrol, Simonne Tardif and Jeanne Poirier, all of Canada; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Richard, who died in Vietnam in 1969; six brothers; and two sisters.
God blessed our family with a mom that influenced our lives which made us a family to be proud of. Peace of the Lord always be with you dearest mom for all your caring, understanding and affectionate ways.
The family wishes to thank the staff and clergy on C3 and C2 at St. Mary’s Hospital for all the loving care that was given to our mother.
