SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Shirley Edna Hoy, 86, of South Burlington, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Nov. 19, with her loving family at her side, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on July 13, 1920, in Chatham, N.H., the daughter of Anne and Harold Eastman.

She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Hoy, who died in 1984, after 43 years of marriage.

She is survived by her devoted son, William E. Hoy, with whom she made her life in South Burlington; her daughter, Cheryl Ann Arnold and her husband, David, of Auburn; and their children, Stacie Lynn Wilson and her husband, Timothy, of Summerfield, N.C., and David William Arnold of Auburn.

Most importantly to Shirley, the apples of her heart were her great-grandsons, Colby and Logan Wilson, of North Carolina.

She is also survived by two nephews, a niece, and their spouses.
